Steel
Strapping
Sealers
Vertical (or front action)
sealers have upright
handles perpendicular to
the strapping so they are
easy to operate either
vertically or horizontally.
Regular duty
strapping is
usually sealed with vertical
sealers. Vertical sealers
such as the
MIP 1152 are
also used with heavy duty
strapping when sealing in
confined areas.
Heavy duty strapping is
usually sealed with
horizontal (also known as
side action) sealers.  The
lower handle can be rested
on the floor or package to
create more leverage. This
type of sealer is also useful
if a joint is being made on
a high overhead strap.
The strength of a strapping application is only as strong as the joint holding the two strap ends together.
A downcut is used for conventional (non-pusher)
applications.
For instances where the seal is flush against the
package an
upcut is used so as not to damage the
package.
Steel strapping sealers may create two simultaneous
notches, or a
double notch, for fast operation and
high joint efficiency.  There must be sufficient room
for the arc swing of the longer handles on a double
notch sealer.
A single notch tool may be used where strap
thickness makes two simultaneous notches difficult.
